Postpartum Depression Anxiety and Marriage

Did you need your husband to be supportive? Were you barely keeping your head above water, barely taking care of that newborn cause you kept thinking it wasn't yours and the "real" parents were going to show up and take it away any moment now? And you would look up at your husband like that cat from Shrek 2, who now has his own "Puss 'N Boots" Movie, with those big, round, dark eyes, that just pleaded "Help Me?"..."Please?"

And were you left wondering why he wasn't doing anything?

If this has happened to you, it's definitely happened to me, please leave your comments. I would like to address this and get to the bottom of this. And it doesn't involve giving them the benefit of the doubt when you were the one that needed it the most...!

My psychologist originally suggested Lexapro to treat my anxiety and panic disorder, then my doctor prescribed it. I was told that it is not habit forming and that it has low side effects and works well to treat panic disorder. I started out on 10mg for 3 weeks then went up to 20mg. My side effects have been mild and have included nausea (the first few days), weight loss (which I don't mind) because of decreased appetite, mild increased sweating, and recently trouble falling asleep. All in all I am very pleased with it and have had only one panic attack in over a month. I used to have multiple ones weekly.

I just came across your blog from EntreCard. I can totally relate to how you feel. At first, my hubby didn't realize how bad the anxiety had gotten. He did become much more supportive after we went to family counseling. We went to counseling years after we lost our second child. I started a blog to share my story. I also have my oldest who was diagnosed with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorder. He also has lots of anxiety. We are both on Zoloft and it has done wonders. I really feel like I have my life back. I will be following your blog and thanks for sharing. You are on the right road to healing. I don't think others who have never dealt with that type of anxiety understand how it feels.

I completely get this.
Anxiety was one of my most troubling symptoms.
I think that we all turn to someone to save us. We feel completely lost and out of control and we need that someone to reach into that dark tunnel, grab our hand and pull us through.
Our husbands want is to be well.
Sometimes they just don't know how to help.
Perhaps have him attend a therapy session with you?

Kimberly - Thank you for your comment. And you're right. I desperately needed someone to pull me through.

In the end, you have to pull yourself through...a good bottle of wine helps too...;)
